I've been on two expeditions to the Himalaya where I've climbed 13 peaks and passes above 17,000 feet, highlighted by an ascent of Ama Dablam (22,349') - one of the most iconic mountains on Earth. I spent 7 days above 19,000 ft. which took a toll on my body as I used no supplemental oxygen at altitude. Sleep was miserable and exacerbated by my 20+ camera batteries shoved in my sleeping bag so they would continue to function (batteries hate cold). Operating a camera above 20,000' in -20 degree wind chill was as brutal as you'd think...
My other Himalayan 6000m summits include Mera Peak (21,246'), Island Peak (20,305') and Lobuche East (20,075'). All of these peaks, including Ama Dablam, were climbed in the dark so that I could photograph sunrise from each summit. I will be attempting Mt. Everest from the lesser climbed Tibetan side in Spring 2025.
